1. A Commitment to Expository Preaching. As a church family, we are committed to meeting together regularly for the express purpose of having specific texts from the Bible read and explained to us. Why? Because we believe that it is through the hearing of God’s Word that souls are saved and lives are transformed.
2. A Commitment to Biblical Theology. What we believe affects who we are. As a church, we long to have our beliefs about God, ourselves, and all of life shaped by the Bible. We do not depend on philosophers, tv gurus, or ourselves to know what is true; we depend on God, who knows best of all what is good and true and right.
3. A Commitment to Biblical Leadership. The spiritual maturity of a church will seldom rise above the spiritual maturity of its leadership. Thus, we are committed to appointing leaders who exemplify godliness, humility, and a desire to lovingly serve others. We are also committed to structuring our church in accordance with the teaching of the Bible.
4. A Commitment to God-centered Worship. Worship is a way of life - not something that only happens on Sunday mornings. However, we do believe that our times of corporate worship are particularly special and we are serious about keeping God and His truth at the center of our worship.
5. A Commitment to Authentic Fellowship. A church is not a building where people meet together once a week and then return home to live their own, individual lives. Rather, a church is a family of people who are committed not only to Christ but to each other. We are serious about being involved in each other’s lives, seeking to encourage, admonish, and edify one another. We are committed to helping those in our family who are in need, and in lifting up each other in prayer.
6. A Commitment to Personal Evangelism. It is impossible to know Christ and not speak about Him to others! We are His ambassadors in this world, and have been given a commission to share His glorious truth with others. Our goal is that every one of our members will be actively involved in speaking of Christ to family members, coworkers, and friends.
7. A Commitment to Community Ministries. As a church family, we want to be salt and light in the communities we live in. We know from the Bible God’s heart of compassion for the poor and the oppressed, the widow and the orphan. We want to use the resources God has blessed us with to bless others; we desire to meet practical needs so that we may have an opening to meet someone’s spiritual need with the Gospel.
8. A Commitment to Global Missions. We desire to be meaningful participants in the Great Commission effort, particularly by partnering with others in planting churches among the most unreached peoples in the world.
9. A Commitment to Personal Holiness. True Christians are those who have been so transformed by Christ that they find joy in seeking to obey Him. This means that Christians are committed to waging war against the sins in their lives and doing all they can to cultivate love and humility and good works. All that we do as a church is geared around helping us grow in holiness so that we can better show the love of God to this needy world.
10. A Commitment to Genuine Love. Christ said that the world would know that we are His disciples if we love one another. At Mount Hermon , we desire to be a community of faith that lives out love for God, other believers, and the lost. We want every aspect of our lives – our words, our actions; our marriages, our parenting, our friendships – to all be characterized by sacrificial love.
